Confidence in U.S. democracy remains low. The public perceives a disconnect between public opinion and existing laws and policies.

A year after Roe v. Wade was overturned, most adults still believe that abortion should be legal and most are in favor of Congress guaranteeing access to legal abortion.

Just 44% are highly confident that votes in the 2024 presidential election will be counted accurately, including only 22% of Republicans but 71% of Democrats. Democrats worry about voter suppression, while Republicans are concerned about voter fraud.

In comparison to April 2023, the public is now slightly more likely to say the former president acted illegally in his handling of classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago.
