Following several major events, the public’s assessment of Trump’s performance as president is holding steady. People are more likely to say Trump has done more to hurt than help with costs and job creation. Assessments are more evenly split on immigration and border security.

Forty-five percent of adults want the U.S. to take a less active role in global affairs, up from 33% in September 2025. Half believe the U.S. intervention in Venezuela will help stop the flow of illegal drugs into the country.

The American public’s priorities for the government in 2026 span a wide variety of issues from economic and personal finance issues to policy areas like health care and immigration to concerns about how well Washington is functioning.

Approval of Trump’s handling of the economy and immigration are down about 10 points since March. Border security remains Trump’s best issue with 50% approval.
