AP VoteCast is a modern, innovative survey of the American electorate conducted in all 50 states by NORC at the University of Chicago for Fox News, PBS NewsHour, The Wall Street Journal, and The Associated Press. VoteCast extends beyond the traditional battleground states to capture the full picture of the American electorate and provides a greater understanding of American democracy.
In 2024, AP VoteCast conducted more than 139,000 interviews with registered voters in all 50 states to tell the story of the 2024 general election. Between October 28 and November 5, 2024, concluding as polls closed on Election Day, VoteCast delivered data about the presidential race in all 50 states, 45 Senate and gubernatorial elections, and 11 ballot initiatives. This election, VoteCast collected more interviews than ever before, providing deep insight into representative subsets of the population to present a greater understanding of American democracy.
The 2024 general election survey provided an accurate picture of the election results, correctly projecting the winner in 96% of Senate, gubernatorial, and presidential elections. Because of their confidence in VoteCast, The Associated Press and Fox News used the data to explain the mood of the electorate in their election night coverage and to inform their race calling decisions.
The Associated Press and NORC are committed to transparency of VoteCast’s methods and results, as well as continual improvement of the VoteCast methodology.
